Area duo completes second Whitworth softball season

A pair of former Riverside High School softball standouts completed their second seasons with the Whitworth University team.
Infielder Peyton McMahon played 18 games this season and went 6 for 10 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBI.
Pitcher Megan Fisher, an exchange student at RHS from Cranbrook, B.C., saw action in 23 games (12 as a starter).
Fisher finished with a 3-3 record and a 7.73 ERA in 71 innings pitched.
The Pirates finished the season with a 23-20 record.

Chargers have two coaching vacancies

Mary Walker High School has begun the search for a pair of new varsity coaches.
The school district is looking for replacements for head football coach Mark Edwards and boys basketball coach Dave Howard.
• Edwards assumed control of the Charger football program in 2006. While he did not have winning record in any of his seven seasons (12-51 overall), the Chargers did advance to the regional playoffs in 2010.

Anglers have pretty good success statewide on opening day

Despite cool and windy weather in many parts of the state, anglers had a lot of success reeling in large trout on April 27, the opening day of this year's lowland lakes fishing season.
Based on creel checks conducted at 98 lakes around the state, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) estimates that anglers caught an average of 4.6 trout on opening day.

Courtney Davis heading to Walla Walla CC

Riverside High School senior Courtney Davis has committed to play basketball at Walla Walla Community College for the incoming season.
A three-year varsity starter and the team captain, Davis, the fourth Lady Ram to break the 1,000-point career barrier, averaged 15.3 points per game last season.
Davis, the team’s most valuable player, received first team All-Northeast A League recognition for the third straight season this winter.
Earning a 3.86 grade point average, Davis has been recognized as a member of the National Honor Society while maintaining an honor roll status.
