The Pullman Greyhounds, holding a decided height advantage, swept the Deer Park Lady Stags 25-14, 25-14, 25-21 in Great Northern League volleyball action on Tuesday.
The win pushed the Greyhounds’ GNL record to 2-0, while the Lady Stags fell to 0-3.
Pullman opened up the match with a 7-0 lead in the first game. An ace from Deer Park’s Sierra English Largent finally ended the Greyhounds’ early scoring surge.
A kill from the Lady Stags’ Callie Bostic trimmed the lead to 13-8, only to see the Greyhounds respond with a 7-2 run and coast to a first game victory.
The second game saw both teams traded points in the going before the Greyhounds took control with a 7-0 run, highlighted by the tough serving of Jolene Herzog.
A left-handed kill by English Largent ended the run, but the Lady Stags could not regain any real momentum for the rest of the game.
Much like the second game, the Greyhounds used a scoring surge to finally shake off the pesky Lady Stags. This time it was the play of 6-fooot Lizzie George, who scored three kills as Pullman built a 15-6 lead.
Deer Park, taking advantage of some sloppy Pullman play, trimmed the margin to 17-11. The Greyhounds’ 23-16 lead was sliced to 23-20 with the help of a block and two kills by Emily Metlow before Pullman regain control to close out the match.
