
The Republic Tigers wasted little time dominating the Springdale Lady Chargers 43-30 in the opening round of the District VII Class 2B tournament on Thursday.
The win propelled Republic (14-6) into the double-elimination portion of the tournament while Springdale ended its season with a 4-17 record.
The Tigers held the Lady Chargers scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the game as they built an 18-0 lead.
Springdale finally broke the scoreless streak on a pair of free throws from Spring Hamilton. Republic answered with a 3-pointer by Gabby Jessen and took a 22-7 lead at halftime.
While the Lady Charger offense heated up a little in the second half they could not make any noticeable dent into the until the final minute of the game when the outcome was not longer in doubt.
Jessen, who hit a trio of 3-pointers during the game, led a scorers with 13 points.
Josie Brown was the Lady Chargers’ top scorer with nine points.
