Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a burglary at the GreenHouse Community Center at W112 First St. in the early morning hours of Oct. 25.
It appeared that the perpetrators tried to pry off the lock on the outside door leading to Office Manager Roxie Champagne’s office. Once that failed they broke the door window and climbed inside.
The thieves went through Champagne’s desk before heading to CEO Susan Peterson’s upstairs office. They ransacked Peterson’s office before making off with a small amount of cash and some office equipment. The food room and thrift shop appeared to have been untouched by the thieves.
Champagne discovered the break-in when she arrived for work at 9 a,m. on Oct. 25. She waited outside and called Peterson, who contacted law enforcement authorities.
Deputies made Champagne, Peterson and GreenHouse volunteers wait outside until they could assess the situation inside the building. They later had Peterson inventory the damage before letting the others enter the building.
