A Chattaroy man suffered serious injuries when the airplane he was piloting crashed on Aug. 23 near an airstrip at Priest Lake.
Dr. John Hershey, 86, was trying to land his Cessna 152 at an airstrip near Cavanaugh Bay when the airplane crashed into some nearby woods.
A Bonner County Emergency Medical Services worker and Idaho Department of Lands firefighters were the first on the scene, about 100 yards from the airstrip. Other rescue crews were able to reach the wreckage a short time later and transported Hershey, who was still conscious, to a helicopter, which took him to Kootenai Medical Center in serious condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the accident.
