Fire crews battling timber fire north of Deer Park

Spokane County Fire District No. 4, Stevens County Fire District No. 1 and Department of Natural Resources firefighters along with air support from a pair of firefighting airplanes spent Wednesday afternoon battling a timber/brush fire near Bridges and Division roads.
The fire, believed to have been caused by a downed power line, quickly destroyed a structure and a couple of vehicles, according to preliminary reports.

Street preservation project completed

Deer Park's annual street preservation project project came to an end on Friday. The $234,000 project included the repaving portions of Sixth Street, Seventh Street, Arcadia Avenue and Carol Street.

Emergency response demonstration set for Sunday

Northwest MedStar, one of the region’s premier critical care transport services, Deer Park Ambulance and Stevens County Fire District No. 1 will have a emergency response demonstration 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Clayton Fairgrounds.
The demonstration will allow the community a first-hand look at how these agencies work together in times of emergency

Tentative agreement reached on Avista rate hike plan

Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) staff members announced on Monday an all-party agreement to settle Avista’s request to increase electric and natural gas rates for its customers in Washington.
The three-member commission, which is not bound by the agreement, will make a final decision on the utility’s rate-hike request this fall.
The settlement agreement calls for new rates to begin Jan. 1, 2015. Public hearings are scheduled next week in Spokane for customers to comment on the agreement.

Civil Air Patrol squadron may start at DP Airport

An informational meeting to gauge interest in starting a Civil Air Patrol squadron will be held 6 p.m. on Aug. 22 at the Deer Park Airport Administrative Building on Cedar Road.
