Well balanced attack keys Stags to first season win

December 8, 2012

Deer Park center Reese Ferguson drew plenty of attention during the Stags' match-up with Medical Lake on Friday.

The Deer Park Stags, unleashing a balanced attack, easily handled the Medical Lake Cardinals 66-50 on Friday.
It was the Stags’ first win in four tries this season. The Cardinals fell to 2-2.
Four Stags scored in double figures, led by point guard Caleb Guske, who tossed in 18 points, 15 of them in the second half.
Guske scored the first basket of the game and the Stags never trailed the rest of the way.
Two free throws by the Cardinals’ Austin Garza cut the Stag lead to 11-9 late in the first quarter only to have Nic Clough, who finished with 15 points, toss in a pair of three-pointers.
Reese Ferguson added two field goals in the second quarter to keep Medical Lake at bay. A field goal by Travis Pierce, who scored 8 of his 10 points in the first half, gave Deer Park a 30-19 lead. The Stags never trailed by less than double figures the rest of the game.
“We needed this night,” said Stag coach Chad Hand.
The Stags slowly built the lead in the second half, topping off at 20 points, 64-44, on a Guske three-pointer.
Ferguson chipped in 10 points for the Stags.
Garza and Adam Paulson combined for 27 points to lead the Cardinals.
