Walter E. Peak, 81

A memorial service and reception was held on Oct. 14 at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, for former Deer Park resident Walter E. Peak, 81.
Born on Nov. 25, 1929, to Paul and Alice Peak, he graduated from Deer Park High School in 1947 and joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum Co., where he traveled to Germany, Wales, England, West Virginia and Louisiana as a trouble-shooter. He retired as a general foreman at the age of 52.
On Oct. 17 1952, he married Kathleen R. "Suzie" Young and began their family that they raised in Spokane. After retiring from Kaiser they relocated to Ferndale, Wash., and later to Brookings, Ore.
He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen, on Jan. 10, 2004. Walt later reunited with his childhood friend, Marj, and on May 2007 they married.
He is survived by wife Marj Smith Peak; his children, Steven (Jill) Peak, Diane (Greg) Simons, Stan (Jane) Peak, Lori (Jamie) Goodman, and Gail (Bill) Olmstead; two sisters, Marie Sauer and Virginia (Marvin) Kieper; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
