Two arrested after Deer Park stabbing
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

A 36-year-old Deer Park man and his cousin were arrested shortly after a stabbing outside Shagnasty’s Restaurant on Saturday evening.

Salvador F. Paiz was charged with felony second-degree assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing a 49-year-old Deer Park man in the back in the restaurant parking lot.

Martin A. Simenthal, 23, was charged with misdemeanor fourth- degree assault after he got into a fist fight with a 23-year-old female in the parking lot.

According to witnesses, the victims, who were in the restaurant, were called outside at around 11:15 p.m. after receiving word that a handicapped man was being beaten in the parking lot.

One of the victims tried to intervene and was reportedly stabbed by Paiz.

The two suspects left the scene in a white pickup truck, but deputies were given a cell phone photograph of the vehicle’s license plate.

Deputies, who recovered a knife at the scene, went to Piaz’s home on the 700 block of Vernon Avenue and found the two suspects. A witness later identified the suspects.

The condition of the victim, whose name was not released, is not known.
