KADIE WEAR Kadie Wear was selected as the 55th Miss Deer Park in ceremonies on Saturday. In addition to the $1,000 scholarship that comes with the title, Wear, daughter of Earl Wear and Sharri Bachman, also earned the $300 scholastic scholarship. Tayler Otteson and Becca Shrauger were chosen as the 2008 Deer Park princesses, while Rachel Ide won the Spirit of Deer Park award.
The princess titles carry $600 scholarships, while the Spirit of Deer Park award, chosen by the contestants, comes with a $500 scholarship. Otteson, daughter of Rick and Laurie Otteson, won the creative arts portion of the contest with her piano recital of Bach’s “Solfeiggetto,” the physical fitness routine and poise competition. Each of those categories carry $100 scholarships. Shrauger, daughter of Bob and Jaki Shrauger, won the judges interview category, which includes a $100 scholarship. She also was awarded the Bill and Bette Cox Community Service Award. Named in honor of longtime Miss Deer Park volunteers, the award is not part of the scoring for Miss Deer Park, but does include a $100 scholarship to the contestant that exemplifies the Coxes’ commitment to community services. The four girls will now represent Deer Park in various community functions throughout the Inland Empire in the coming year. |
