Gary L. Akers, 65
A private memorial service will be held at a latter date for Deer Park’s Gary L. Akers, 65, who died on Jan. 13.

Born July 22, 1941, to the late Melvin Akers and Charlotte Akers Haugen, the family moved around before settling in Spokane. He graduated from North Central High School in 1959.

Mr. Akers worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 20 years before opening a video store in Deer Park in 1981.

He enjoyed traveling, gardening and meeting people on his Ham radio.

A daughter ,Julie Kendall, predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon, at the home; one daughter, Lori Burkart of The Dalles, Ore.; one son, Michael Akers of  Deer Park; four siblings, Dale and Alan Haugen, Elva Hawkins and Holly Swedeen; and three grandchildren, Harley Kendall and Rachel and Tyler Burkart.
