A memorial service was Jan. 5 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Chewelah, with the Rev. Matthew Gordon officiating, for Loon Lake resident Leonard W. Hoppes, 51, who died on Dec. 30 at his home.
Born July 2, 1955, to William H. and Marjorie M. (Fogleman) Hoppes, in Allentown, Pa. he was raised in Pennsylvania where he graduated from Brandy Wine High School. He was a masonry worker before enlisting in the Army in June 1974. Mr. Hoppes served in Alaska and was honorably discharged at Fort Myer, Va., in October 1979. He traveled with his family working various trades until he settled at Loon Lake 16 years ago. Mr. Hoppes discovered his love for building and began a career in residential construction. On Feb. 18, 2006, he married longtime friend Mikki Trampus-Anderson. Together they resided at Loon Lake. Mr. Hoppes also loved to cook. He is preceded in death by his stepmother, Lottie Hoppes. He is survived by his wife, Mikki, at the home; one daughter, Dawn Hoppes; one son, Brian Hoppes of Denver, Colo.; two stepsons, Lane Anderson of Loon Lake and Danny Anderson of Springdale; his father, William Hoppes of Kutztown, Pa.; his mother, Marjorie Hoppes of North Hampton, Pa.; one sister, Linda Reinert-Kutztown; one half-sister, Marjean Merson of Zepher Hills, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kalina and Tyler Anderson. The family requests memorials be made to the Special Olympics. |
