A.L. Lowry, 103
A memorial service was Oct. 6 at the Chattaroy Community Church, with the Rev. Jim Couey officiating, for A.L. “Al” Lowry, 103, who died on Sept. 30 at his Colbert home.

Born May 18, 1904, in Marshall County, S.D., he and his family moved to Wendell, Idaho, in 1919. He married Bernice Cornelison in November 1924 in Wendell.

Mr. Lowry was manager for the Idaho Power Co. in Wendell until 1944 when he joined the family hardware business in Winlock, Wash. In 1948, he moved to Brewster, Wash., to become Public Utility District manager for Okanogan County’s southern district. He retired from that post in 1969.

He served as  Brewster mayor from 1955-63.

He was also active in his church where ever he lived.

Mrs. Lowry died in November 1979 and he married Zelpha Protz in May 1983 while they worked as volunteers at the Southwest Indian School in Peoria, Ariz.

In addition to his first wife, a stepdaughter, Sharon LaMacchio; a grandson, Tom Lowry; a great-grandson, Keith Bennett; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Britny Hewitt, also precedeased him.He is survived by his wife, Zelpha, at the home; four children, Leah Bennett of Spokane, Phil Lowry of Fife, Wash., and Steve Lowry and Marily Cook, both of Colbert; four stepchildren, Charles Hewitt of Wiley, Colo., Shelley Tompkins of Smithville, Texas; and Larry Hewitt and Valarie Smith, both of Beaver Creek, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Hagerman, Idaho.

The family requests memorials be made to the Union Gospel Mission in Spokane.
