A rosary service will be 7 p.m. July 19 at Danekas Funeral Chapel, Chewelah followed by a funeral mass 10 a.m. July 20 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Valley, for Loon Lake resident Hazel M. Trampus, 95, who died on July 11 in Chewelah. Graveside services will follow at Jump Off Joe Cemetery.
Born on July 30, 1911, to Grover and Margaret (McGough) Eyler in Rockham, S.D., she was 8 years old when her family moved to St. Cloud, Minn. After finishing the eighth grade, she went to work to help her family. She worked various jobs, including housekeeper, cook and trap line runner. When she was 24 years old she followed her sister to Idaho and Washington. where she met and later married Joe Trampus on Oct. 26, 1936 in Spokane. The couple made their home in Spokane for a short time then moved to Valley before settling at Loon Lake in 1944. Mrs. Trampus was an outdoor person and loved raising chickens and growing large gardens. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and baking (especially cookies and cinnamon rolls). Her husband, Joe; one son, Ed Trampus; one sister, Alice Cordray; and one brother, Bud Eyler, all predeceased her. She is survived by four daughters, Mikki Hoppes of Loon Lake, Carmon Bellamy (Al) and Donna Butler (Pete), both of Spokane, and Monica “Montie” (Joe) Flett of Welpinit; one son, Dan Trampus of Loon Lake; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. |
