Woman helicoptered following highway accident

An 84-year-old Coeur d’Alene woman was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition following a three-car accident on U.S. Highway 395 and Gardenspot Road on July 3 at around 5 p.m.

Florance L. Westgaard was a passenger in a Toyota driven by Donald H. Hodge, 65, of Otis Orchards.

According to the Washington State Patrol report, Hodge was southbound on the highway when he was struck by a semi-truck driven by Kenneth M. Comstock of Vancouver, Wash. The truck also struck a Subaru driven by Lindsey L. Buffington, 16, of Loon Lake.

Westgaard was transported to SHMC by helicopter. Hodge was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was treated and released.

Comstock and Buffington suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene.

The accident closed the highway for about two hours.
