The Deer Park Arts Commission, which took over control of the Deer Park Civic Center in March, detailed plans for a $734,700 renovation of the 80-year-old building. Arts Commission Chair Denny Lippert said the renovation will be broken into three phases. The first phase, which includes an extensive renovation of the restrooms and handicap access ramp, will cost more than $170,000. The new ramp, which meets current Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, will replace the main entrance of the building in the rear.
Lippert said the arts commission hopes to repaint the interior of the building and refinish the floor this summer. The cost is estimated at $6,000, but city officials hope to pare the cost by hiring a work crew from the Geiger Correction Facility. The arts commission has secured a $30,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to help with the renovation, but the funds can only be used to complete the first phase. The second phase, which will cost almost $472,000, includes the renovation of the kitchen and stage and improvements to the heating, electrical and plumbing systems along with the creation of office space. The final phase centers around the stage area with the installation of a sound system, stage lighting and acoustical work. The cost of these renovations is around $91,000.Lippert said the arts commission is searching for grants to pay all of the renovations. |
