The city of Deer Park, which retook ownership of the Deer Park Civic Center on March 28, will not change the fee for the public to use the facility. The city council agreed to keep the daily rental fee at $80, although renters will be required to pay an additional $70 refundable cleaning and key deposit.
City Clerk Lisa Kelling said the city staff has had about a dozen inquiries from people wanting to use the building, which will now be called the Deer Park Community Center. As part of the agreement to take control of the 80-year-old building, the city agreed to pay the remaining $7,300 loan the Deer Park Civic Center Association took out to purchase a new furnace. The association agreed to pay any outstanding utility bills and for the two plaques, honoring the Deer Park Women’s Civic Club and Deer Park Association which took control of the former Crawford Gymnasium in 1974; and listing the names of memorial contributions that helped the groups preserve the building. |
