Transportation group plans regional meeting

Transportation challenges and priorities for the Northeast Washington area will be the focus of a Sept. 17 meeting with the Washington State Transportation Commission when it visits Colville. Local officials from Ferry, Pend Oreille and Stevens counties, the cities of Colville, Newport and Republic and the Kalispel and Spokane tribes will participate as part of the commission’s statewide public outreach effort.
The public meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. at Colville City Hall, 170 Oak St. The meeting also will include presentations from the North East Washington (NEW) Regional Transportation Planning Organization and Eastern Region Office of the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Persons wishing to speak to the commission may do so during the public comment period scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
The meeting features a series of short presentations on successes and challenges, future plans and needs for transportation in the northeast Washington region. Topics include local and state roadways, freight transportation, public transportation and economic vitality.
Before the Colville meeting, the commission will tour the completed portion of the North Spokane Corridor and the area of the proposed corridor from Interstate 90 to Francis Avenue. The commission will also tour U.S. Highway 395 from Spokane to Colville, U.S. Highway 2 from Spokane to Newport and portions of State Route 20 in Stevens and Pend Oreille counties.
