Stags win GNL boys track championship

May 3, 2012

Deer Park's Jaric DeHart completed the 400-meter relay in winning fashion. The Stag quartet won the event with a school-record 43.9-second effort.

The Deer Park boys track team used a pair of record-setting performances to pace the Stags to their first conference track championship ever on Wednesday.
Deer Park won this year’s Great Northern League championship with an easy 91-54 win over Cheney.
Senior Dayde Collins won the 800 meters with a 1-minute, 58.7-second performance. His effort bested the school record of 1:59.6 set by Richard Chaffin in 1988.
The Stags’ 400-meter relay (Jade Wilson, Luke Springfield, Brad Hall and Jaric DeHart) team took down an even longer-standing school mark. This year’s Deer Park quartet finished the relay in 43.9 seconds, .4 seconds faster than the old school record set in 1974.
In addition to Wednesday’s record-setting efforts, the Stags’ Justin Beal won the pole vault (11.0), the long jump (19-0.25) and javelin (168-2).
Stags also received a trio of first place efforts from Wilson in the 100 meters (11.1) and 110-meter hurdles (15.4); Daniel Amann in the 1,600 (4:33.6) as well as the 400 (53.0); and Andrew Buynak in the discus (129-11) and shot put (45-9.5).
