In a match-up of two of the top Class 2A wrestling programs in the state, the top ranked Deer Park Stags easily dispatched the 16th ranked Clarkston Bantams 58-18 on Wednesday.
It was the Great Northern League opener for both schools.
The Stags, who trailed 6-0 after the first match (at 160 pounds), won the next four to 16-6 lead.
Among the wins in that stretch was a hard-pounding 4-2 decision by Dylan Miller at 170 pounds over Brock Beeler. Miller, a state runner-up last season, scored the win with a takedown with only 2 second left in the match.
While the Stags forfeited the 275-pound match, they won the next seven to leave no doubt about the outcome.
Leading the way for the Stags were C.J. Rodriquez (220 pounds), Aaron Klauder (106), Jared Burton (113), Jason Aebischer (120), Cody Dehn (126), Jesse Molina (132), Cole Harris (138) and Matt Miller (145), who all scored pins.
