Stag wrestlers waste no time in defeating Greyhounds

January 6, 2012

Deer Park's Austin Jones takes control of Pullman's Bailey Poitra in the 152-pound match. Jones would eventually score a second period pin.

The Deer Park wrestling team made short work of the Pullman Greyhounds on Thursday.
The Stags, who defeated West Valley 48-19 the previous day, needed only 24 minutes to take care of the Greyhounds 59-24. The win improved the Stags’ Great Northern League record to 3-0.
The Greyhound match allowed head coach Matt Jorgensen to give many of the reserves varsity action. Only two varsity regulars (Dylan Miller at 170 pounds and Jason Jorgensen at 182) saw action.
Four of the Stags — Michael Learnard (126), Nathan Moore (132), Jesse Ayers (145) and Miller — registered first period pins. Matt Miller needed almost two full periods to pin his opponent, Jake Staniszewski.
In addition to the domination on the mat, the Stags also scored 24 points in forfeits.
