Shirley R. Agar, 86

March 1, 2013

Shirley Ray (Viles) Agar, 86, passed away at her home in Colville on Jan. 27, 2013.
Shirley is survived by her four children, Debbie (Max) Egger of Colville, Bruce (Mary) Agar of Thermopolis, Wy., Matt (Debbie) Agar of Ontario, Ore., and Muriel Badgley of Spokane. Shirley is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17-plus great-grandchildren, one sister, Nancy Sanders, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was the third of four children born to Fred and Muriel Wiles on April 4, 1926, at Great Falls, Mont. In 1949, Shirley married Roy Agar and settled down to farming and ranching in the Williams Valley area just outside of Deer Park.
Shirley worked hard on the ranch, driving tractor, bailing hay, feeding the crew and raising four children. In Shirley’s spare time, she belonged to various community organizations, but her true passion was singing. Shirley sang for her local church, including weddings and funerals.
In 1978, Shirley and Roy sold the ranch in Williams Valley and moved to Huntington, Ore., where they purchased a ranch. Shirley worked side-by-side with her husband, Roy, and her sons building Durbin Creek Ranch.
In 1996, Shirley and Roy retired and moved to Colville to be closer to their daughters, Debbie Egger and Muriel Badgley.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy; her sister, Marcella Grady; her brother, Gordon Viles; and one great-grandchild, Peyton Joy Egger.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her beautiful voice and zest for life will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by everyone she touched. Shirley’s legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Shirley on March 16, 2013, at the Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Open Door Congregational Church in Shirley’s name.
