Scotties hold off Rams to win NE-A wrestling title

The Riverside wrestling team won most of the battles on Tuesday but lost the war.
The Rams won six of the nine contested matches against Freeman but could not overcome the five forfeits they were force to concede. The Scotties used those 30 “free” points to defeat the Rams 42-31.
The regular season finale for both teams left the Scotties at the only undefeated Northeast A League program this winter.
Trailing 24-0 at the start, the Rams cut the lead to 24-13 following a first period pin by 120-pound Ivan Love and decisions by Austin Calder (126) and Tyler Jack (132). A first-period pin by Darren Miller at 152 pounds trimmed the Scottie lead to 27-25.
The Rams took their first lead at 31-30 with a first period pin by Dustin Crabtree at 170 pounds.
Freeman recaptured the lead a few seconds later with the first Riverside forfeit and left no doubt about the outcome with a first period pin by Brian Goldenbach (190 pounds) in the final match of the evening.
