Robert A. Smith, 81

Robert Allen Smith passed away on Jan. 10, 2012, at the age of 81. He was the second of seven sons born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Hayford, Wash., to George and Ruth (Crofoot) Smith.
Robert had fond memories of spending time in his grandparents’ orchard along Peach Crest in Old Kettle Falls and of living near the “ Milk Bottle” in Spokane. He graduated from Newport High School and EWCE (now EWU.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, then a long-time draftsman and handyman.
He enjoyed growing tomatoes and prize-winning sun flowers, fishing, hiking, traveling in the RV and remembering the way things used to be.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon and Donovan.
Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; his daughter, Sally (Dale); granddaughters Kristen and Kellie of Nebraska; his son, Doug (Pamula); grandsons Quin and Talon of Puyallup, Wash.; brothers, Edwin (Elsie), Elmer (Donna), Lowell (Pon) and Kenneth (Sue); and other family members.
A potluck celebration of his life was held on Sunday, Jan. 15 in Tacoma. Another celebration will be held in Kettle Falls in the spring.
