R-side's Ahrens to face old friend at Sun Dome Shootout

December 28, 2011

Riverside head coach KC Ahrens, a 1996 RHS grad, will face off with former Ram teammate D.J. Traver at Friday's Sun Dome Shootout in Yakima.

It is understandable if Riverside head boys basketball coach KC Ahrens has a flashback to his teenage years when the Rams face Columbia-Burbank on Friday as part of the Sun Dome Shootout.
The Coyotes are coached by D.J. Traver, a teammate of Ahrens at Riverside in the mid-1990s.
Traver, a member of the Rams’ 1993 state championship football team, would eventually move to the Tri-Cities and graduate from River View High School.
He has been the coach at Columbia-Burbank for the past seven seasons, compiling an 82-76 record along with two state tournament berths during that span. The Coyotes are 1-7 this season.
Ahrens, a 1996 RHS grad and in his fourth season with the Rams (3-5), is 24-44.
