Phyllis M Welch, 88

A small private service is planned at a later date for former Deer Lake resident Phyllis M. (Williams) Welch, 88, who passed away on Nov. 30.
Born on Dec. 6, 1922, in Rapid City, S.D., to Henry Clark Williams and Adeline Maude Williams (Jolly), she married Harold Stanley Welch from Deer Park on Jan.18, 1947.
She was librarian for Connell School District and served as mayor of Hatton, smallest town in Washington with 75 residents at that time, from 1979–83. She and her husband retired to Deer Lake for 25 years until health reasons moved them to Pasco, Wash., in 2005.
A few of her many endeavors for her children and community included starting a Teen Club, Purple Sage Riders 4-H Club leader, Girl Scout Leader and she facilitated the start of the Connell Municipal Library. She served at Gideon Lutheran Church for many years in many capacities. She bowled with Welch Bros. team in Connell for many years and also in Chewelah after moving to Deer Lake.
Mr. Welch passed away on Dec. 14, 2009. A granddaughter, Kerri S. Welch, passed away on Nov. 27, 2010.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn M. (David) Jones, and Joan E. (Larry) Eckman; one son, Steven D. (Charlette) Welch; one brother, Jim Williams; five grandchildren; and has numerous great-grandchildren.
