Philip D. Bacon, 60

The memorial service for Philip Dean Bacon, who passed in September, was held on Saturday, June 4 at 2:30 pm at his parents’ Little Pend Oreille Lake home; the ceremonial spreading of his ashes took place at his Deer Creek home later that weekend.
He is survived by two of his children, daughters Amber and Breanne, and granddaughter Katya; as well as a niece and nephew and various extended family. Philip loved his children greatly and often spoke of their accomplishments proudly.
Philip was born on April 8, 1951, to Stanley and Elizabeth (Sperry) Bacon in Spokane. He graduated Deer Park High School in 1969 and went on to attend Spokane Community College where he studied psychology for a time.
Philip was not conventional in his thinking or in the way he chose to live his life. He enjoyed the spirituality of the Native American culture and living peacefully and simply in his Deer Creek home.
He bred and raised wolf-hybrids from 1978-2009. Within that time the Department of Fish and Game would often test his hybrids against canine field samples to compare genetics, for some of Philip’s hybrids were so close to purebred wolves that genetically there was no difference; this was a point of pride for Philip. In his later years he kept the last two males of his breeding lines for his own.
He was a great lover of nature and knowledge, and spent most of his life pondering the greater questions of humanity. He enjoyed discussing his thoughts and opinions in great detail with family and friends, and sometimes even strangers; amazing conversations could be had with Philip. He gleaned his knowledge from people such as John Muir and John Lust.
His greatest goal was to live off the land. He had hoped to have a lovely garden, a large green house abounding with fruits and vegetables…as well as some exotic plants…and an orchard. His daughter, Amber, now hopes to someday succeed in making some of his dreams reality.
His memorial was held in conjunction with his mother Elizabeth’s. His daughter Amber handled the services.
