Person of interest determined in Starbuck homicide investigation

December 14, 2011

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has a person of interest in the Chanin Starbuck homicide investigation but will not immediately release the suspect’s identity as detectives continue to gather evidence.
Starbuck’s body was discovered in her Deer Park home on Dec. 3 after neighbors became concerned about the accumulation of mail in front of her house.
The Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Starbuck was strangled a few days earlier.
As part of the investigation, the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office has asked a Spokane County Superior Court judge to seal a search warrant for the next 30 days as detectives investigate the suspect’s activities.
Starbuck, a single mother of five, recently began dating. Many of her dating partners and her ex-husband, Clay, have come forward to supply information and DNA samples.
