A graveside funeral service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the Wild Rose Prairie Cemetery, with the Rev. Sue Robinson officiating, for longtime Wild Rose Prairie resident Mike Burdega 93, who passed away on Jan. 3, 2012.
Born on April 9, 1909, on a farm in Colonsay, Saskatchewan, to Nick and Margaret Burdega, his family moved to a farm on the edge of Wild Rose Prairie and he graduated from Mead High School in1937.
He married Margret Hanna in 1944 and they moved to Wild Rose Prairie and raised five children. He was a dairy farmer milking more than 100 head and farming 440 acres. He was also a volunteer firefighter. He enjoyed dancing, fishing and having a good time with friends.
Mr. Burdega’s memberships include the Wild Rose Methodist Church, Deer Park Eagles Aerie No. 3564, Wild Rose Fire Department, Wild Rose Community Center, and the Washington State Dairymen’s Federation.
He is survived by his wife, Margret; five children, Marny (Lloyd Roberts), Dave (Jan), Kerry (Jim Nimnicht) and Wendy (Tom Stevens), all in the Deer Park area, and Lauri (Larry) Sherfey of Kennewick, Wash.; two sisters, Maria Triplett Sitter and Helen Montgomery; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A reception for family and friends will follow the service at 3 p.m. at the Deer Park Eagle's Lodge, W12 South Ave.
