A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 27 at St Mark's Lutheran Church, E316 24th Ave., Spokane, for Deer Park resident Melany L. (Slechta) Box, 51, who passed away on Jan. 17, 2012.
Born on July 12, 1960, IN Ritzville to Dale D. and Marla Jo (Doerschlag) Slechta, the family lived in Sprague, Wash., until 1974 and then moved to Deer Park. She graduated from Deer Park High School in 1978 and married Douglas C. Box on May 11, 1979.
She worked for Deer Park School District for 10 years as a behavior specialist then opened her own sewing business, Nip and Tuck, where she worked as a seamstress and craftswoman until her death.
She loved gardening, sewing, crafts, reading and taking care of her animals. Along with her regular pets, she would save any animal in need, and lovingly nurture it back to health. This included birds, ferrets, dogs, cats and bunnies.
She is preceded in death by her father, Dale Slechta; a sister, Rachel Slechta, and her grandparents Ralph and Jessie Doerschlag.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Box; a daughter, Jessi Jo Box, her mother and step-father, Marla Jo and Gerald Dittrich; a sister, Dana (Kyle) Ryan; a nephew, Collin Ryan, a brother-in-law, Robert Box; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Danekas Funeral Home and Crematory, Ritzville, will be in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Spokanimal, 710 North Napa St. Spokane, WA 99202-2867; or Humane Society, 6607 North Havana St., Spokane, WA 99217-7499.
