Mary Walker voters OK levy request

February 14, 2013

Mary Walker School District patrons approved a four-year, $225,000 annual maintenance and operations levy.
The levy request, replaced the current $225,000 annual levy, received 56 percent approval (312-245).
The levy will cost school district property owners $1.40 for every $1,000 of assessed property, according to school district officials. The current levy has an assessment rate of $1.68.
The approval also means the school district will receive $417,814 in state levy equalization funds. If the levy had been rejected, the school district would not receive any equalization funds.
Levy funds will go toward school staffing, teaching supplies, textbooks, technology and extra-curricular programs. Funds will also be used for utilities, fuel, food service and building maintenance costs.
