Local entrepreneurs seek state marijuana licenses

November 26, 2013

Area entrepreneurs believe it will be easier (and more profitable) to grow marijuana than to sell the weed.
In the first week of license applications to produce, process and sell marijuana under the terms of Initiative 502, most of the requests are to produce and process the plant. Only a small number of businesses have applied for a retail license.
In the production section, the Liquor Control Board has received 47 applications from Spokane County business looking to secure a license. A couple of the applicants, including BOS on Pike Road, Mountain Goat Industries on Monroe Road and Evergreen Extracts on Swenson Road, list Deer Park addresses.
Five applicants list Stevens County addresses, including Savage THC on Marcum Road in Clayton.
Five businesses in Pend Oreille County have applied for a producer’s license.
The Liquor Control Board has received 33 applicants from Spokane County businesses seeking a processor’s license, including Evergreen Extracts and Mountain Goat Industries.
A business can hold a producer and processing license simultaneously.
Only three Stevens County businesses have applied for a processor’s license, including Savage THC.
E&B Growers in Usk is the only Pend Oreille County business seeking a processor’s license.
As for retail license requests, six applications have been received from Spokane County, all from businesses in the cities of Spokane and Spokane Valley.
No applications have been received from Stevens and Pend Oreille County businesses.
The Liquor Control Board has set aside 18 retail licenses for Spokane County, four for Stevens County and two for Pend Oreille County.
A retail licensee cannot also hold a producer or processer license.
The state will not accept any applications relating to I-502 after Dec. 19.
