Late run carries Bulldogs past Chargers

February 10, 2012

Kettle Falls Nick Reppert has trouble finding an opening past Springdale's Isaiah Wynecoop in district playoff action on Thursday.

The Kettle Falls Bulldogs, using a 13-0 fourth quarter run, defeated the Springdale Chargers 40-36 on Thursday in the opening round of the District VII Class 2A tournament.
The win propelled the Bulldogs (3-18 overall) into the double-elimination portion of the tournament. The Chargers, who defeated the Bulldogs twice during the regular season, ended their season with a 4-17 record.
Training 33-26 midway through the final quarter following a Chase Fitzgerald put-back basket, the Bulldogs finally took the lead 34-33 on a Luke Beardslee basket. A 3-pointer by Brandon Thomas increased the Bulldog lead to 39-33.
Springdale’s Isaiah Wynecoop trimmed the Kettle Falls lead to 39-36 with a 3-pointer of his own. The Chargers had two chances to tie the score in the closing minute but missed two long-range shots.
Neither team could generate much of an offense in the first half as the game was tied at 17-17 at intermission.
The Chargers, who got a pair of 3-pointers from Josh Anderson, led 29-26 with 8 minutes to play.
Wynecoop led all scorers with 15 points. Connor McKern paced Kettle Falls with 11 points.
