What Riverside’s Hannah Holm started, she finished on Tuesday night.
The senior scored the first basket of the game against Deer Park. The hoop put the Lady Rams a head 2-0, a lead they would never relinquish. Holm scored the final basket of the game to secure the 51-23 win.
Following Holm’s first basket, the Lady Rams, using a suffocating defense rolled out to an 18-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Riverside head coach Buddy Wood was pleased with the intensity his team showed at the start of the game.
The Lady Stags did not hit their first basket, a bucket by Karlee Barcellos, until two minutes were gone in the second quarter.
A lay-up by Courtney Davis increased the Riverside lead to 24-5. The Lady Rams eventually stretched the margin to 32-11 by halftime.
Cold shooting continued to plague the Lady Stags as the Lady Rams slowing built their lead in the third quarter.
Another Barcellos hoop early in the fourth quarter trimmed the Riverside lead to 45-22. The Lady Rams responded with baskets from Sandra McDonald and Jaime Hardy as Riverside coasted the rest of the way.
“We still haven’t played together for four quarters,” Wood cautioned.
Davis and Marisa Pace shared game-high scoring honors with 10 points apiece. Barcellos, Makenna Adams and Danielle May each scored six points for the Lady Stags.
The win improved Riverside’s overall record to 4-1. Deer Park fell to 0-6.
