Three was a lucky number for the Riverside track program at last weekend’s state Class 1A championships at Eastern Washington University.
The Lady Rams took home a trio of third place finishes (400, and 3,200 meters and 1600-meter relay) as they finished 12th in the team competition with 24.20 points. Bellevue Christian won the team title with 61 points.
Junior Jess Mildes earned the Lady Rams first state medal last week with an 11-minute, 19.33-second showing in the 3,200 meters. She, like the rest of the field, could not catch Northwest’s Maddie Myers, who destroyed the meet record with an 11.00.83 performance.
In the 400 meters, sophomore Jessica Chrisp used a blistering finishing 50 meters to place third. Her 59.50 effort trailed only Cashmere’s Angela Knishka (58.96) and champion Karlie Storkson of King’s (58.96).
The 1,600 relay team of Mildes, Chrisp, Sara McDonald and Maddi Dykeman turned in a school record performance of 4:05.96, trailing only University Prep (4:05.65) and Bellevue Christian (4:03.59).
Mildes also turned in a fourth place showing in the 1,600 at 5:14.33. It was a race again dominated by Myers, who won the championship with a meet record 4:46.85
“I had a good season,” said Mildes, who battled an arch problem during the cross country season.
Mildes said she will take a week or two off before she begins running again in preparation for her final cross country campaign.
The Lady Rams other team points came from Chrisp, who placed in a five-way tie for sixth place in the high jump at 5-feet. LaCenter’s Katrina Chamberlain won the event at 5-5.
• On the boys side, the Ram 1,600-meter relay team of Brayden Proctor, Dylan Livingston, Jordan Yaws and Jordan Wood placed sixth in 3:34.85. The quartet earned a berth in the finals with a 3:31.9 performance in Friday’s preliminaries.
Zillah won the 1,600-meter championship in 3:28.48.
Riverside freshman Logan Owens placed eighth in the 800 meters in 2:09.03. King’s Hap Emmons won the championship in 1:56.87.
