K-9 unit aids in arrest of Elk fugitive

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies received information that 49-year-old Robert S. McDonnell might be staying at a residence in the 14900 block of East Blanchard Road in Elk and might have an active warrant for his arrest.
After checking McDonnell’s name, it was found there was a confirmed Department of Corrections felony warrant for an escape community custody charge.
When deputies arrived at the location on July 3, they found the door of a travel trailer wide open and a lighter, cigarette rolling papers and tobacco on the ground nearby.
Finding an open door to the residence, deputies determined McDonnell must have seen them and fled inside.
Once Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Cook made an announcement his K-9 partner Ekko would be used to search the residence, McDonnell identified himself immediately and complied with Cook’s commands.
He was taken into custody by Deputy Scott Bonney without incident and booked into the Spokane County Jail for the felony warrant.
