K-9 helps capture Deer Park suspect

March 13, 2014

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and K-9 Deacon were able to locate a suspect who had violated a domestic violence protecting order and fled a Deer Park residence during the late hours on March 11.
The incident began when Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Dutton responded to a possible domestic dispute in the 400 block of South Evergreen Court in Deer Park around 9:30 p.m. Several deputies responded to the area to help locate the suspect who reportedly left the scene on foot prior to their arrival.
An hour later, deputies arrived at a North Short Road residence to check for the suspect. As they approached the house, a male was observed running toward a wooded area. Dutton observed the fleeing male and believed he was 25-year-old Randall J. Meek and not the suspect they were originally trying to locate.
Dutton had arrested Meek at the location on March 6 for violating a no-contact order and warrants.
In the March 11 incident, he yelled at Meek to stop and began to chase him into the thickly wooded area but lost sight of him.
Deputies set up a perimeter and Deputy Tyler Kullman and his K-9 partner were requested.
Dutton confirmed Meek was the male he observed fleeing from the residence and was in violation of a domestic violence order of protection.
Several unsuccessful announcements were made for Meek to give himself up and that a Sheriff’s K-9 would be used to help find him. Kullman and Deacon began a track from the residence after giving an additional unanswered K-9 warning.
After a track of approximately 150 yards, Deacon located Meek hiding under some bushes.
Meek received medical attention for minor scrapes and abrasions, some of which Meek said he received while trying to flee though the woods.
After being medically released, Meek was transported to the Spokane County Jail and booked for misdemeanor charges of violation of a domestic violence order and obstructing.
