Jack M. Pittman, 89

A memorial service was held on Aug. 31 at the Colfax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Nelson officiating, for former Elk resident Jack M. Pittman, 89, who passed away in Spokane on Aug. 25.
Born on Oct. 26, 1921, at Medical Lake to the late John and Louise Pittman, he lived his early life in the Medical Lake/Spangle area. The family moved to Elk where he graduated from Riverside High School in 1939.
He briefly attended Eastern Washington College of Education and then enlisted in the Navy in 1940. He served in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters.
After the war he moved to Colfax, where his parents were living and went to work for Brown & Holter Chevrolet-Oldsmobile as a mechanic. He met Virginia (Ginny) Teal in 1946 and they were later married on March 21, 1948.
Mr. Pittman continued working for Brown & Holter until going to work for Colfax Ready Mix. In 1960 he took over the farming operation from his father-in-law, Alfred Teal Sr. He continued to farm for the next 40 years in the Mockonema area.
An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed playing golf.
Mr. Pittman was a member of the Colfax Elks and the Whitman County Friends of the Library.
Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Hill Ray Plaza in 2007. In April 2011 they moved to an assisted living facility in Spokane.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ginny; two sisters, Wilma and Wanita; and a brother, Forrest.
He is survived by three sons, Terry (Susie) of Spokane, Scott (Rhonda) of Colfax, and Jeff (Tammy) of Pasco; five grandchildren: and five great-grandchildren.
