Spokane Major Crimes detectives are excavating property on Walters Road in Elk, believed to be the gravesite of Ramona Childress, who went missing last November.
Detectives were directed to the site by a witness who told investigators last month that he helped Jason Flett bury her body on the property after Flett killed her.
Jason Flett, 27, who was Childress’ boyfriend, was arrested on Nov. 13 and charged with second-degree murder. He is expected to make his first court appearance relating to the Childress killing on Nov. 15.
Investigators believe Flett was worried that Childress was going to tell police about his involvement in some home invasions robberies he was allegedly involved with in last fall. That fear was the motive behind her death.
Last month, additional information was developed about Childress disappearance. Subsequently, a witness led them to the property in Elk and showed investigators them the gravesite.
Investigators have recovered human remains at the site. Additional forensic testing will be required to confirm whether or not those remains are Childress’.
