The Cheney Blackhawks, the last unbeaten volleyball team in the Great Northern League, defeated Deer Park 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 on Thursday.
In each game, the teams played even at the start only to have the Blackhawks surge to a commanding lead.
In the first game, a 5-5 deadlock quickly became a 16-5 lead behind the serving of Cheney’s Sami Sheffels.
The Lady Stags took a 13-8 lead on a Kimmie Brazington kill only to see the Blackhawks take a 14-13 lead in the second game. An Alisha Perez kill trimmed the Cheney lead to 23-20 only to have the Blackhawks score the final two points of the game.
In the third game, Cheney took a 19-01 lead then held on as the Lady Stags made one final push.
Liz Gill led the Blackhawks with 10 kills and four aces while Brazington paced the Lady Stags with nine kills. Angie Reardon led Deer Park with two aces.
