First Cedar Road construction bill comes due

September 5, 2012

The first bill for the new Cedar Road construction project may come due before the city receives any grant funding.
In a memo to the Deer Park City Council, the city’s Director of Community Services, Roger Krieger, noted a $24,895.35 task order for survey work and engineering to determine what rights-of-way necessary for completion of the project and working with affected property owners on the donation of properties consistent with previous written commitments to participate in the project.
Although the city has not received any of the $1.81 million in approved federal grants to build the heavy duty, all-season road, Krieger’s memo said the current Capital Improvement Fund has enough funds ($25,336.27) to cover the task order.
The city council will have to approve the budget transfer. If the city council agrees to the funding plan, the capital improvement fund may seek reimbursement once the federal grant funds become available.
The current balance in Capital Improvement Fund was originally earmarked for the replacement of the concrete restroom at Mix Park. The current fund balance will not cover the restroom replacement project, Krieger noted.
The memo also laid down a preliminary road construction timeline of Aug. 2, 2014, to July 2, 2017.
