Ellen L. Baker, 89

Ellen L. (Pratt, Hutchinson) Baker, age 89 was born on Nov. 18, 1923, to Arthur G. and Mary A. Pratt at the family homestead in the shadow of White Bluff, west of Spokane. She died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, evening at Franklin Hills Nursing Home of heart and lung failure.
She spent her childhood on the family farm with her beloved horses and helping her dad. She married Roy M. Hutchinson Sr. in October 1941. They spent their time at various jobs and part-time farming and playing with their horses. Roy died in 1973.
To this union four children were born, Madge L. Murray of Idaho, Roy, Jr. (Nancy) of Florida, Fredrick (deceased), and Fred (Wanda) of Washington.
Ellen started work at the egg ranch of Deer Park in the early 1960s to support her family. She spent the next 20 years at that job until October 1981.
In April 1981 she married Frank H. Baker of Deer Park. They worked together at self-employed jobs including long-haul trucking and traveling in the motor home. They divorced in August 1997 but remained companions and good friends and continued traveling.
In October 2006 she moved to Plummer, Idaho, to live with her daughter. Caregiver duties were shared part time with Madge and Frank H. The last year of her life Frank H. was her exclusive caregiver.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; Roy Sr.; her 11-month-old son, Fredrick; one sister, Elaine Weliver; and grandparents, uncles and aunts.
She is survived by her three children; one special niece, Lucille (Sis) Cornelius of Oregon; former husband Frank H. Baker; two stepchildren, Peggy (Chuck) Wetmore of Washington, Frank E. (Sharon) Baker of Washington, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Neptune Society was in charge of cremation.
At her request no services were planned. Her wishes were to have her ashes buried with Roy Sr. and baby son at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane.
