DPSD begins rehiring process

June 28, 2011

The Deer Park School District, which laid off its provisional staff in May, has begun rehiring some of the staffers for the upcoming school year.
The Deer Park School Board approved the rehiring of school district nurse Dawn Epler and speech language pathologist Kelly Pitts, both full-time employees, at its June 27 meeting.
Epler’s rehiring was almost a given since the size of the school district mandates a full-time school nurse.
Superintendent Becky Cooke expects most of the provisional staff, which equaled 8.7 full-time employees, to be rehired in the next couple of months.
One of the layoffs was Brian Comstock, who filled the half-time band director position.
Cooke said Comstock or a new band director will be hired on a full-time basis. His new duties will include non-band classroom instruction.
