Deer Park wrestlers win season opener

December 7, 2013

Deer Park's Jason Aebischer gets ready to pin Orting's Dylan Amadeu in Friday's 171-pound match.

The Deer Park wrestling team, bolstered by five forfeit wins, defeated Orting 46-33 on Friday in the first match of the year for both Class 2A powers.
The Stags, runners-up at last season’s state championship, jumped out to a 22-0 lead thanks to a 9-1 win by defending state champion Joe Grable over Michael Moniz, another Mat Classic veteran, in the 152-pound match-up and a first period pin by 171-pound Jason Aebischer.
The Cardinals closed the gap to 22-18 with wins by Jacob Boswell at 195 pounds, Trent Lochridge at 220 and Hunter Mullins at 285, but Orting could not overcome the three forfeits they surrendered the rest of the way.
