Deer Park golfers stymied at state championships

May 22, 2012

For the second straight year, the Deer Park golf program failed to advance a player into the second round of the state Class 2A championships.
Selena Lewis, in her third state championship, shot a 105 (53rd place) in the opening round on Tuesday at the Lake Spanaway Golf Course. Fellow Lady Stag Allison Rummer, in her first state appearance, shot a 110 (65th place).
The top 40 golfers from the first round advance to the championship round in the girls and boys tournaments.
Alena Groenhout of Interlake was the opening round leader with a 75.
On the boys side, Deer Park’s Donovan Snyder shot a 90 in the first round on the Classic Golf Club at Spanaway, which left him in a tie for 46th place.
Port Angeles’ Joe Barnes shot an opening round best 75.
