Deer Park Ambulance pair receive EMS recognition

A pair of Deer Park Ambulance members were recently honored for their excellence of service to the community.
Paramedic Ryan Schilining and Emergency Medical Technician-Advanced Roy Varney received Provider of the Year awards.
Schilining received the Responder of the Year Award from the Spokane Emergency Medical Services Council, while Varney received the Les Parkhurst Award for excellence in emergency medical services (EMS) from Stevens County Fire District No. 1.
Schiling has been a paramedic for Deer Park Ambulance since 2005. He began his EMS career as an EMT-basic then as an EMT-advanced. He became a paramedic after attending Spokane Community College and serves in a similar capacity for Spokane County Fire District No. 4 and American Medical Response ambulance service in Spokane.
Varney became a member of Deer Park Ambulance in 2008 after retiring from the South San Francisco Police Department. He also serves as a firefighter/EMT for Stevens County Fire District No. 1.
