Dave Howard named new MWHS boys basketball coach

Assistant boys basketball coach Dave Howard (left) will take over for Dwayne Watts next season.

Mary Walker boys basketball assistant coach Dave Howard has been promoted to head coach following the recent resignation of Dwayne Watts.
Howard, a 1977 Deer Park High School graduate, has served as assistant basketball coach for the past six years. He is also an assistant football coach.
Watts was 49-43 during his recent four-year tour as head coach with the Chargers. He led the Chargers to the state tournament in 1989 during his first head coaching stint at the school.
• The second annual Chargers Hoops Golf Tournament will be 1:30 p.m. on July 23 at the Deer Park Golf Course.
The fund-raising tournament will include prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive.
Entry fee is $50 per person (maximum four-person team).
