The grass roots state senate campaign waged by Ferry County Commissioner Brian Dansel still leads incumbent 7th District Sen. John Smith 13,369-11,698 after two days of voting.
Dansel, who was buried by Smith, in campaign fund-raising and spending, won in voting in only two of the five counties that make up the 7th District. In Stevens County, he holds a 4,183-3070 margin. He also won Ferry County 1,476-546.
In Spokane County, the most populated county, Smith, who was appointed to the senate position earlier this year, only holds a slim 4,970-4,785 margin. Smith also outpolled Dansel in Pend Oreille County 1,725-1.675 and Okanogan County (1,387-1,250).
