Daniel I. Johnson, 61

October 8, 2013

Daniel Ira Johnson (Danny) was born on Nov. 7, 1951, to Ira William and Noreen Louise Johnson, their third of five children. Danny grew up on a dairy farm in Williams Valley west of Deer Park.
His Christian parents raised him to become the Godly man that we all loved so much. Since the family never owned a TV, after a long day of chores, they played games, and read the Bible together. As an adult, without fail, year in and year out, every morning with his bowl of Wheaties cereal, you would find Dan reading his well-worn Bible, seeking and soaking up the Word of God.
His soft-spoken wisdom spoke louder than words. Sundays on the farm were always set aside for a day of rest, with attending church and visiting the neighbors being the focus of the day.
As a youth, Dan loved to be outdoors in God’s Creation. He spent hours fishing, hiking, motorcycle riding in the hills, hunting deer and elk with his Dad and uncles, bucking bales, riding 10 miles on his bike to go swimming at Loon Lake. Family picnics were common and picking huckleberries for his Mom to bake his favorite pie was a favorite memory for him.
Dan attended the Deer Park schools, graduating with high honors in 1970. He was a member of the track team, even going to the state level. Running was something he was good and fast at! He attended Spokane Community College for one year, then met Marilyn Billman in September 1971 in California at the Campus Crusade for Christ headquarters. There they learned how to share the “Four Spiritual Laws” booklet inviting people to come to know Jesus as their personal Saviour.
After quickly realizing they were meant to be best friends and soul-mates for life, Dan took a job at Long Lake Lumber Co. in 1972 where he worked until 1994, when the spotted owl shut down the mill. Dan worked so hard and faithfully that he was promoted to the head saw filer position, which the entire mill’s efficiency depended on. He seldom missed any work during those 22 years.
Dan was the most amazing, loving, patient and Godly example to his sons David Daniel (May 14, 1977) and Justin William (Dec. 31, 1978). Their Dad taught them what is really important in life and yet had a ton of fun doing that! Camping, boating, fishing, skiing and softball games filled the summers. School studies, AWANA club and church involvement were a mainstay of the rest of the year.
After earning his associate’s degree in electronics, Dan found a new challenge with a career change at age 45. In his 16.5 years at Intel in the Lithography AOS, again his soft-spoken wisdom and Rock Solid faith was evident in his work ethic, integrity, and patient, peaceful nature.
Dan came home a day early from vacation with his grandsons to work on Sunday, Sept 1, so that he would not let his team down.
On Thursdays, you would find him faithfully serving others at the Sonrise Food Pantry. His compassion and love for those needing help would reduce him to tears as he said grace over his dinner at night.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, and Father-in-love, Raymond Daniel Billman.
His survivors include his wife Marilyn; two sons, Justin and David; daughter-in-love, Lynette; and three grandsons, Dylan, Hudson and Crew. He is also survived by three sisters, Deloris (Bill) Donnelly, Irene Johnson and Melody (Dick) Grinnell; a brother, Harold Johnson along with numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family.
His absence will be deeply and sorely felt by his survivors, but his life will live on in the Legacy he left each of us.
