Cougs out last Rams; take over first in NE-A wrestling

January 16, 2013

Riverside's Jonathon Webb took care of Chewelah's Quentin Smith 12-0 in Tuesday's 145-pound match.

The Chewelah Cougars built an early lead and then held off the Riverside Rams down the stretch to all-but capture the Northeast A League wrestling championship on Tuesday.
The Cougars’ 43-35 win left them as the only remaining NE-A team with a week left in the regular season.
Chewelah led 34-12 after the first seven matches only to see Riverside mount a furious comeback fueled by pins by Ivan Love at 120 pounds and Andrew Hansen (126 pounds) and 18-5 win by 132-pound Tyler Jack.
Dustin Crowell stopped the bleeding for the Cougars with a third period pin of Brayden Lenz in the 138-pound match.
After Jonathon Webb got the Rams back on track with a 12-0 decision over Quentin Smith in the 145-pound match, Chewelah’s Russell Smith scored a last-second 5-4 win over Brayden Proctor at 152 pounds to secure the match for the Cougars.
Dustin Crabtree (185) and Darrin Miller (160) also scored wins for the Rams, while the Cougars’ Adams Collins (172), John Haley (220) and Dustin Olson (285) won their matches.
